The History of FAMILY INADA is The History of The Massage Chair
Family Inada Inc. (known as FAMILY INC. in Japan) built the original home massage chair in 1962. It was called the Family Chair and was simple by today's standards, with a single setting and manual controls.
Year by year Family Inada teams of engineers and massage professionals have added innovation after innovation, achieving a long-held goal in 1974 with the introduction of a combination kneading and tapping mechanism.
The INADA Chair version i.1 was the first massage chair to feature an infrared pressure point detection system. Family Inada latest innovation is a synchronized music program that further heightens the INADA Chair experience.
1962 - Family Chair - the first automatic massage chair.
1966 - First lift-and-drop handle.
1968 - First up-and-down motion rollers. First leg vibration system.
1971 - First kneading mechanism. First rhythmic movement function.
1972 - First to offer choice of either two or four rollers.
1973 - First to offer choice of firm or soft touch kneading.
1974 - First "human touch" function (squeeze and press). First clutch controlled kneading and tapping function.
1979 - First spinal roller. First fold-up backrest. First free-locking recline system.
1983 - First replaceable roller.
1988 - First with both acupressure and massage roller features.
1996 - First with four rollers that move in alignment with the body.
1998 - First to use air bags for massage.
1999 - First combination of rollers on upper body and air bags on lower body.
2000 - First infrared pressure point detection system. First preventive medicine/wellness based software. This version of INADA Chair i.1 captures the Number One share of the market in Japan.
2001 - INADA Chair i.1 & H.9 introduced to the US
